Hummie van der Tonnekreek, former editor-in-chief of Big Brother, passed away on January 19 at the age of 76. Good friend and television producer Gijs van Dam announced this today.
She died from the effects of lung cancer. Van der Tonnekreek became especially known to the general public when she became editor-in-chief of the television program Big Brother in 1999.

Van der Tonnekreek was one of the people who designed the revolutionary program, in which residents of a locked house were monitored 24 hours a day with cameras. Her involvement in the show earned her the title of Big Brother's "primordial mother."
