I have a feeling it was the conservative Africans in the first week complaining on social media that made them do it. First week had no steam but the prudes complained on Twitter and the steam was added.

The problem is that in the first seasons of BB Africa, the shower hour was edited much like this season, into a show. Back then internet wasn't what it is now, social media barely existed. Things didn't circulate as much.

Then the shower hour moved to internet only via a « VIP » section on their website where paying members could stream the shower hour live and watch highlights videos. Being a pay per view service made it less likely to come out of the VIP section. People would know about it, sometimes a vid would end up going viral but rarely. (I believe in Mzansi it was also shown on the livefeed tv channel uncensored).

But the main criticism this season has received is that they didn't stick to that format and went back the the main one, the tv edit of the shower hour. Most people say that is a dated format since the world has changed and social media is everywhere, that it feels exploitive and invasive. They didn't cancel the show but they tried to compromise and make it seem tamer. Maybe it will evolve but I believe they can't do much anymore about it.
